ISACA Chicago Chapter Academic Relations


Purpose and Mission of the Academic Relations Committee:
  • Provide a framework for information exchange among and for the mutual benefit of the Chapter, academic community, and business community in support and enhancement of relationships among the faculty/student bodies of universities with the Chapter and the IS audit and control profession.
  • Maintain close communication with local university activities, encourage student membership in ISACA, and provide feedback and direction for the ISACA Model Curriculum and COBIT in Academia ™ initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of new education programs for the Chapter and membership.
 
Objectives of the Academic Relations Committee:
  • Create a variety of communication vehicles for promoting information exchange and enhancement of relationships among the faculty/student bodies of universities with the Chapter and the IS audit and control profession.
  • Support ISACA International initiatives for advancing the Academic Relations program by providing feedback and direction for the ISACA Model Curriculum and COBIT in Academia ™ initiatives, as well as any new programs ISACA International introduces.
  • Develop activities directed toward faculty and students, as well as integration of the academic community, business community and Chapter membership to promote the IT Governance professions, ISACA certifications, career and networking opportunities.
  • Maintain documentation on all available information materials available via ISACA International, Chapter Academic Advocates, Student members, activities held, and participant feedback.

Academic Advocate Responsibilities
  • Raise student awareness of ISACA, the value of ISACA student membership and the professional opportunities available in the fields of IT, assurance and information security management.
  • Consider starting an ISACA student group on campus, and communicate with the local ISACA chapter to encourage student participation in appropriate activities.
  • Raise student awareness of the ISACA certifications, and the future career value of pursuing the CISA, CISM, CGEIT and CRISC certifications.
  • Introduce COBIT and its concepts into the classroom.
  • Work toward integrating the ISACA model curricula (Assurance and Security) and their concepts within the college/university.

  • Introduce the bimonthly ISACA Journal to the university library as the type of professional journal the library should consider carrying.
  • Provide ISACA feedback on its products, namely COBIT, the ISACA model curricula and IT Governance Using COBIT and Val IT materials.
  • Communicate with local chapter representatives (i.e., Academic Relations director and committee) on activities that will promote an exchange of information, stronger relationships, and opportunities for integration of the academic community, business community and Chapter membership to promote the IT Governance professions, ISACA certifications, career and networking opportunities.
 
Student Membership Program:
  • Available to full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Students within 50 miles of an ISACA chapter must join that chapter.
  • ISACA International student membership annual dues reduced to $25 and new member fee is waived.
  • Chicago Chapter student membership dues will be waived with proper identification of student status.
  • Student membership information and benefits (professional development, research & knowledge, community leadership) are available at ISACA International's website.
